"I just don't want to learn their systems. All that talk about having to know them before you can properly reject them, about getting at them from the inside, just doesn't wash. You can't learn a system without being tainted by it."
Wasting no time, he, brother Jake - long ago a member of Quintessence - and Pete Creese formed Blurt and began performing.
They quickly found a patron in Factory's Tony Wilson, who'll be including a side of Blurt on a forthcoming double album sampler. But more importantly he got them gigs on Factory nights with other acts, whose audiences proved more tolerant and open to Milton's zany visions.
"Although I come from the wrong direction - I'm the wrong age, I come from the theatre, a poet," reflects Ted, "at least these people give me five seconds before deciding."
That's all Blurt ask for and that's all they need. Go see them and give them that much before making up your minds.
