all things blurt!

Ox-Fanzine / Ausgabe #68

My first encounter with Ted Milton and his dreaded saxophone was of a traumatic nature. That changed with the first Best-Of "The Fish Needs A Bike" two years ago.

"The Body That They Built To Fit The Car" with 16 tracks is the second in a row and in the meantime I've grown real fond of Milton's cacophonic saxophone sound which fits with its avant-garde approach to rock music in the same camp as a band like Pere Ubu. The whole probably is unlistenable to a lot of people and likely just drives them mad, but Milton's uncompromising No-Wave compositions contain a lot of energy through their rhythmic character, and are not that distant from bands like The Pop Group or A Certain Ratio. Above all Milton proves to be more punk than anything that goes under that moniker nowadays, but will not appeal to the shallow entertainment needs most people are looking for now, since Blurt haven't lost any of their radical and agressive stance without stranding in something unlistenable .
